Harding Township is located in southeastern Morris County, NJ. The community has a total area of 20.5 square miles and has approximately 1,250 housing units. The Township contains two unincorporated communities, a portion of Green Village (07935) and all of New Vernon (07976), both of which have origins as colonial settlements that predate the American Revolution. Some homes in Harding have a Morristown (07960) or Basking Ridge (07920) mailing address. The New Vernon zip code (07976) was named one of the 25 Richest Zip Codes in the United States by Forbes magazine in 2006. Harding offers residents a country lifestyle and features large estate homes and horse farms. Glen Alpin is an historic property which encompasses over nine and a half acres at the corner of Mt. Kemble Avenue and Tempe Wick Road. The Gothic Revival Villa was built in 1847.
Harding Township is easily accessible to Interstate 287 and NJ Route 24. The train station in Morristown and Madison is located close by.
Public school students for kindergarten through eighth grade attend Harding Township School. For grades 9-12, Harding students attend Madison High School in Madison.
The Great Swamp Wildlife Refuge is located in portions of Harding Township and offers hiking trails and an observation area for viewing wildlife in their natural habitat. Mount Kemble Lake sponsors events for residents throughout the year.
