Montville Township is located in eastern Morris County, NJ. The community covers 19.1 square miles and has approximately 7,500 housing units. Montville (07045) is easily accessible to Interstate 80 and 287 offering a quick commute to Manhattan and employment centers in Northern New Jersey. The community is filled with suburban neighborhoods and still retains a rural country atmosphere. Two sections include: Towaco (07082) and Pine Brook (07058). Towaco, which has a train station and bus service to NYC, is a small village located on the Township's northern end. Pine Brook, located in the Township's southern end, borders the retail and commercial centers along Route 46 where there is convenient bus service to NYC. The Passaic River borders Montville to the east. In 2009, Money magazine named Montville the 21st best place to live in the United States - the 2nd highest ranked town in New Jersey.
Although there are historic homes and old farm houses from the 1700s and 1800s sprinkled across the community, most of the homes and neighborhoods were constructed beginning in the 1960s. Ranch, cape, bi-level, split level, and colonial homes are all common. In recent decades, new construction of the large center hall colonial homes flourished. Lake Valhalla is a wonderful community that surrounds a serene 90 acre lake with forest and mountain views. The Lake Valhalla Club, located on the south side of the lake, is a private tennis and swim country club. Membership is not limited to Montville residents. Some of the other housing developments and neighborhoods in the Township include: Brittany, Royal Hills, Taylortown, Douglas Estates, Rambling Woods, Manchester Estates, Crestview Estates, Cheryl Estates, High Ridge, Waterford Crossing, ParkLane Estates, Changebridge, Green Meadows, Tara Hill, Sand Hill Estates, Windsor Estates, Woodshire Estates, Buck Run, Montville Acres, Mansions, Fox Hollow Estates, Cooks Farm, Lakeside, Highview, Brookwood, Cedar Ridge Estates, Old Lane, Forest Ridge, Valhalla Ridge, Bear Rock Estates, Estates of Valahalla, and High Gate.
Montville's highway access is excellent, which makes it a desirable community to live in. Residents can use Interstate 80 for an eastbound commute. Montville has a train station in Towaco on the NJ Transit Montclair-Boonton Line which offers service to Hoboken Terminal. Passengers can transfer to another train or bus before Hoboken for a Midtown Manhattan commute. At Hoboken Terminal, passengers can switch to the PATH to reach NYC. Lakeland Bus Lines provides service from Pine Brook in Montville to NY Port Authority Terminal in Midtown. During rush hour, the bus ride takes about 40 minutes. Lakeland Bus Lines also provides service from Towaco in Montville to NY Port Authority Terminal in Midtown. This bus ride takes about 50 minutes.
The Montville Township School District includes five K-5 grade elementary schools including Cedar Hill, Hilldale, Valley View, William Mason, and Woodmont. Robert R. Lazar Middle School serves students in public school for grades 6-8 and Montville High School serves grades 9-12.
Montville Township offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities for residents of all ages from traditional sports to craft classes. Additionally, there are numerous recreational facilities, which are available for use by residents. There is a dog park located off Changebridge Road in Pine Brook. Residents and non-residents are able to enjoy this park for a nominal fee.
There is an amazing amount of nearby shopping for residents. From big chain stores in Parsippany and East Hanover, to small shops and boutiques in Boonton and Morristown, everything you need is just a short drive away. The Rockaway Townsquare Mall is about 15 minutes away in Rockaway Township. The Willowbrook Mall is about 15 minutes away in Wayne.
