Morris Township (07960) is located in Morris County, NJ. The community has a total area of 15.8 square miles and has approximately 8,300 housing units. The Township is known as the "doughnut" around Morristown since it completely encapsulates it. The community has a pleasing mix of real estate - from historic homes, to new construction, to townhomes and condos. Morris Township does not have its own high school. Students for grades 9-12 attend Morristown Public High School. Most homes in Morris Township have a Morristown (07960) mailing address. However, neighborhoods that border Morris Plains, for example, homes in the Fairchild section, have a Morris Plains (07950) mailing address.
Three sections of Morris Township include Collinsville, Convent Station, and Washington Valley. Collinsville is conveniently located just north of Morristown and is within walking distance to the Morristown Train. Convent Station was named after its railroad station and is situated east/southeast of Morristown. Among the neighborhoods of Convent Station are Bradwahl Estates, Cromwell Hills, and the Normandy Parkway Historic District. Washington Valley is located west of Morristown and has a rural, country, suburban atmosphere. Other housing developments and neighborhoods include: Burnham Park, Spring Brook, Fairchild, Jockey Hollow Estates, Butterworth Farms, Glimpsewood, Wheatsheaf Farms, Skyline, Rolling Hill at Skyline, Fosterfields, Gilbert Estates, Bradford Estates, Gitney, Spring Valley, Summit, Oak Park Estates, Egbert Hill, Rolling Hills at Blackberry, Normandy Village, Normandy Heights, Hillside Meadows, Spencer Estates, and Jockey Hollow.
Morris Township has convenient access to Interstate 287 which runs north-south through Morris County and offers an easy connection to major east-west routes including Interstate 80, 280, and NJ Route 24. Convent Station in Morris Township has a train station on the NJ Transit Morristown Line with direct service to Hoboken or NY Penn Station. Passengers who take the Hoboken train can switch to the PATH to reach NYC. Passengers who take the Midtown Direct train will arrive at NY Penn Station in about 55 minutes. Passengers can transfer at Newark Broad Street or Summit to reach the other destination if necessary. The Fairchild Section of Morris Township is within walking distance to the Morris Plains Train Station.
The Morris School District is a regional public school district that serves the communities of Morristown and Morris Township (for grades K-12), along with students of Morris Plains for grades 9-12 only. Within the district there are three primary schools (K-2), three intermediate schools (3-5), one magnet school (K-5), one middle school, Frelinghuysen (6-8), and one high school, Morristown High School (9-12). The College of Saint Elizabeth, a Roman Catholic four year liberal arts school, is located in the Convent Station section of Morris Township.
There are two swimming pools and tennis facilities located in Morris Township. Other recreational facilities include, The Morris Museum, Loantaka Brook Reservation, Seaton Hackney Stables, Patriots' Path, Fosterfields Living Historical Farm, The Mennen Sports Arena, Lewis Morris Park, and Morristown National Historic Park at Jockey Hollow.
